Mini Stress Buster to Help You Release Tension
There are SO MANY reasons to feel stressed these days. We can't change most of our circumstances, but we can change the way we hold and experience stress in our bodies.
I know that we are all sitting more and more.
Did you know that sitting without moving allows stress and tension to build up in your body? Most of the time we are not even aware of it happening. We just know that we feel tired and irritable. Chronic stress has been shown to be the number one cause of many major illnesses. It can affect every major system in your body.
Sometimes we just accept chronic stress as inevitable. It seems easier to ignore it. But because it is low level, just a small intervention can have a very positive effect. It's the things we do every day that are ultimately the most important.
Fortunately, incorporating a few stress relieving techniques into your day can turn things around.
I want to give you an easy technique that you can add into your day, to help you on your path to improved well being. I like to call it the Mini Stress Buster.
Try this 3-minute technique for letting go of tension and stress:
Mini Stress Buster
Relax back in your chair. I am giving you permission to slump ;-)
Curl your toes and tighten your feet. Hold for a breath, then let it go.
Hold each of the following positions for a breath:
Next tighten your knees and thighs, hold and release.
Squeeze your buttock muscles, and relax.
Tighten your stomach, and relax.
Pause and take a deep breath, and exhale fully.
Tighten your neck and shoulders, pause, and relax.
Make fists with both hands, and release.
Finally tighten your face, eyes and the back of your head. Let it go.
Maybe this didn't change the world, but it can change how you experience it!
Now that you feel more relaxed, it’s a good time to tune into your posture, and see how you are sitting.
If you feel like your posture could use a little tune up, check out my post on how to feel at ease while sitting upright. These videos are like having a session with your physical therapist! Click here to watch!
When I work with my clients one on one, I always work with them to relieve the patterns of tension and stress that they are holding.
This is one step towards restoring the body's ability to heal itself.
